Flappy Flight
The reference flappy game: one flyer, one gap type, a speed that keeps climbing and nothing else in the way.
Bird Blitz begins at roughly the speed Flappy Flight reaches after a minute, and goes up from there. The flight model is snappier, the spacing is tighter, and the run asks you to be reading two gates ahead from the very first one.
Survive as long as possible in a field that is already fast when it starts. Score is one point per gate, with the usual centre bonus and combo multiplier.
| Action | Keyboard / mouse | Touch |
|---|---|---|
| Flap | Space, W or Arrow Up | Tap anywhere on the play area |
| Pause / resume | P or Esc | Pause button in the game bar |
| Restart | R | Restart button in the game bar |
Pause with P or Esc, restart with R. The game pauses automatically if you switch tabs. More detail in keyboard controls for browser games and touch controls for arcade games.
The flight model here is the snappy preset: stronger gravity at 1,950, a harder flap at −500 and a higher terminal speed of 760. The practical effect is that everything happens sooner. A flap climbs faster, a fall accelerates faster, and the window in which a correction is useful is noticeably shorter than in the classic tuning.
That combination sounds punishing and is, but it also makes the game more controllable than its speed suggests. Because the flyer responds harder, a late correction can still work — where the same late correction in a floatier game would simply not move you far enough in time. Players who come to Bird Blitz after only playing Flappy Flight usually over-flap for the first minute and then find it easier than expected.
Spacing between gates starts at 250 units rather than the usual 300, and the speed ramp reaches its ceiling in roughly half the time. Gaps are slightly larger than the classic game's to compensate — this is a speed test rather than a precision test, and combining the two would only have produced a game nobody could read.
The one concession the game makes is a two-second opening with no obstacles at all. That window exists so you can find the rhythm before the first gate arrives, because at this speed a cold start is otherwise lost before it begins.
Bird Blitz uses the site's shared flight model: gravity acts continuously on your vertical velocity, a flap sets that velocity rather than adding to it, and hard caps on rise and fall speed mean no situation is ever unrecoverable. The mechanics this game leans on are Flapping, Gravity, Speed and obstacle avoidance.
If you want the numbers behind that, how flappy-style games work sets out the whole model, and how flapping mechanics work explains why a flap that sets velocity behaves so differently from one that adds to it.
